In case you’ve been living in a cave over the past 24 hours, Sarah Palin announced that she will not be running for re-election. Reaction from both conservatives and liberals is typically what you would expect. Conservatives such as myself were surprised by the announcement and also excited about the possible future for Palin. Liberals, on the other hand, are still sticking with the tired personal attacks against her and the vile comments. Case in point, a recently posted (and almost immediately pulled) blog by fiction and comedy writer Erik Sean Nelson titled: “Palin Will Run in ’12 on More Retardation Platform.” I’d love to link it, but as I mentioned, it’s been pulled. I will post a lovely screen shot of it just for you (sorry for the bottom portion cut-off).
The blog said this:
In Sarah Palin’s resignation announcement she complained about the treatment of her son Trig who always teaches her life lessons. She said that the “world needs more Trigs, not fewer.” That’s a presidential campaign promise we can all get behind. She will be the first politician to actually try to increase the population of retarded people. To me, it’s kinda like saying the world needs more cancer patients because they teach us such personal lessons.
Her first act as President: To introduce a Pre-K lunch buffet that includes lead paint chips. Sort of a Large HEAD-START Program.
She will then encourage women to hold off on pregnancies until their 40’s just to mix up some chromosomes.
She now is in favor of abortion only in case of diploid birth.
Her policies will increase jobs because Wal-Mart is building new stores each day and someone has to be the greeter.
This will lead to smaller government because fewer Americans will have the cognitive ability to hold a government job.
This is repulsive. In his own admission he feels people with mental retardation and people with cancer are incapable of being productive and positive members of society. He also makes the asinine and completely uncouth remark that Wal-Mart greeters are mental retarded. Then putting forth the imbecilic notion that Palin is somehow pro-abortion when it comes to any birth resulting in non-special needs children. All for the sake of humor? I’m sorry Erik, but this is not funny.
In Erik’s words on why he pulled his blog he says, “I got some emails from offended loved ones of the retarded. No one was seeing the absurdity of Palin hiding behind her children, so my piece was not accomplishing anything good.” There’s a surprise, someone was offended by that. The real non-shocker, a liberal blog was not accomplishing anything good. Color me shocked.
Next, I’d like to post a link to Palin’s announcement followed by the video, and then some comments from yours truly. In the event the link is taken down, I have a copy and will post the full text.
Of course people from both sides have their opinions on why she made this move. Democrats are naturally claiming things like “She’s being bullied out the job” or “She can’t handle the job.” And Republican see a possible run for the White House in 2012. I liked what Mike Huckabee had to say about it here.
My personal opinion? I think she may make a run for the White House. With senate seats likely to change next year in favor of conservatives, 2012 could be very interesting for us crazy right-wingers. We shall see!
